musth
musth In sexually mature male elephants, a physiological and behavioural condition associated with sexual activity. It lasts two to three months, during which testosterone levels are high; the temporal glands become enlarged and temporin secretion becomes copious; urine is discharged continually, and behaviour becomes more aggressive. Musth occurs annually or biennially, but at any time of year rather than within a particular season. Its occurrence is not synchronized among groups of males.
