mixing ratio

mixing ratio

mixing ratio A relationship which indicates how effectively energy is transported by convection in stars. It is defined as the length of eddies in the convective current divided by the distance over which the gas pressure varies significantly. Convection in stars is not fully understood, so calculations of the sizes of convective stars are uncertain by about 15%.

mixing ratio

mixing ratio Ratio of the mass of a given gas (e.g. water vapour) to that of the remaining gas (e.g. dry air) in the mixture. The examples given yield the ‘humidity mixing ratio’, expressed most conveniently in grams per kilogram of dry air. See also SPECIFIC HUMIDITY.
