min·er / ˈmīnər/ • n. 1. a person who works in a mine. ∎  a device used to mine ores, etc. ∎  hist. a person who digs tunnels in order to destroy an enemy position with explosives. 2. an Australian bird (genus Manorina) of the honeyeater family, having a loud call and typically nesting colonially. 3. a small South American bird (genus Geositta) of the ovenbird family that excavates a long burrow for breeding. 4. short for leaf miner.
