messenger-RNA (m-RNA) A single-stranded RNA molecule that is responsible for the transmission to the ribosomes of the genetic information contained in the nuclear DNA. It is synthesized during transcription and its base sequencing exactly matches that of one of the strands of the double-stranded DNA molecule.
