loz·enge / ˈläzənj/ • n. a rhombus or diamond shape. ∎  a small medicinal tablet, originally of this shape, taken for sore throats and dissolved in the mouth: throat lozenges. ∎  Heraldry a charge in the shape of a solid diamond, in particular one on which the arms of an unmarried or widowed woman are displayed.

lozenge. Diamond-or rhomboid-shaped equilateral parallelogram with two opposite angles more acute than the other two. Lozenges occur in mouldings, on diaper-patterns, in jewelled strapwork, in window-lights subdivided by lead cames (see lattice), and as small lights over Gothic lancet-lights in tracery, in net-vaults, and in many other instances.

lozenge n. a diamond shape that, when placed within the chevrons of an insignia, indicates the rank of first sergeant. It is a figure borrowed from heraldry and was first used in 1920.
