pompier, l'art
pompier, l'art. A term applied pejoratively to French academic art (more particularly pretentious history painting) of the late 19th century. It is said to derive from the habit of posing nude models wearing firemen's helmets to substitute for ancient military headgear (pompier is French for ‘fireman’).
