kneeler, knee-stone.
1. Large, approximately triangular stone at the foot of a gable, cut to have a horizontal bed and a top conforming, wholly or in part, to the slope of the gable. This foot-stone, gable-springer, or skew-table provides a securely anchored stop for the raked cope.

2. Similarly, a stone securely bedded with one side cut at an angle or skew forming the springing of an arch or vault.

3. Cop in a battlement.

4. Square return of a label over a late-Gothic aperture.
