indifferent species

indifferent species A species with no real affinity for any particular community, but which is not rare (as an accidental species would be). It is fidelity class 2 in the Braun-Blanquet phytosociological scheme (see faithful species). Compare accidental species; exclusive species; preferential species; and selective species.
