hon·ey·comb / ˈhənēˌkōm/ • n. 1. a structure of hexagonal cells of wax, made by bees to store honey and eggs. 2. a structure of adjoining cavities or cells: a honeycomb of caves. ∎  a mass of cavities produced by corrosion or dissolution: [as adj.] honeycomb weathering. 3. tripe from the second stomach of a ruminant. • v. [tr.] fill with cavities or tunnels: whole hillsides were honeycombed with mines. ∎  corrode (something) internally, forming small cavities in it. ∎ fig. infiltrate and undermine: their men honeycombed the army.
