guilloche.
1. Classical ornament, or plait-band, usually composed of a series of equidistant circular elements all of the same diameter surrounded by curved bands, enriched with single or double fillets, that overlap each other in a continuous strip. Each circle can also be enriched with a flower or can be plain. It is related to a fret, but with curves instead of right angles. 2. Inaccurate term for a fret. |
