ground tackle
ground tackle, a general term embracing all the gear carried by a ship to enable it to anchor or to moor. By some it is also held to include permanent moorings for ships and smaller vessels, including trots, but more usually the term refers only to a vessel's own means of anchoring or mooring alongside.
