1. Main timber beam of great size supporting subsidiary beams at right angles to it. 2. Beam built up for additional strength to support a floor, road, etc. A plate-girder is constructed of plates of rolled iron or steel, consisting of vertical webs with flat plates fixed to the upper and lower parts. |
