freeware
freeware Software which can be downloaded and which is free. The practice of providing free software has become increasingly common over the last five years. Both large software companies and individuals offer freeware: the former do it in order to sell peripheral services, premium versions of the software, or components that can be added on to the free product; the latter often do it out of altruism or a strong feeling that all software should be free.
