epact number of days by which the solar exceeds the lunar year; number of days in the age of the moon at the new year. XVI. — (O)F. épacte — late L. epactæ pl. — Gr. epaktaí (sc. hēmérai days), fem. pl. of epaktós, pp. adj. of epágein intercalate, f. EPI- + ágein lead, bring (cf. ACT).
