emission spectrum

emission spectrum

emission spectrum A spectrum that is dominated by, or consists solely of, bright emission lines. An emission-line spectrum indicates the presence of hot gas and a source of energy, as in a very hot star (see Emission). Examples of objects with emission-line spectra include Wolf-Rayet stars, planetary nebulae, and quasars.
