dog-tooth.
1. Pyramidal ornament consisting of four leaf-like forms radiating from the apex or resembling a pyramid with V-shaped notches pointing towards the apex, forming one of a closely spaced series within a cavetto moulding. It is characteristic of First Pointed Gothic, and is also found enriched with stylized foliage. 2. Brick laid diagonally with a corner corbelled out and projecting from the naked of a wall below, forming one of a series of adjacent similar bricks to create a continuous saw-toothed band on a string-course or as part of a cornice (see cogging). |
