distributed file system
distributed file system The software and hardware architecture which allows users spread over a number of computers in a network to access FILES in the network without there being a need to know about the location of the files. Use of such files in a distributed file system should be as easy as the use of files in a stand-alone computer: for example, files should use the same naming conventions as normal files with no indication of their location being included in their name.
