St Germans, diocese of
St Germans, diocese of. Athelstan created this specifically Cornish see by dividing the see of Crediton in 931, though the Celtic church, Canterbury, and Crediton had in turn provided episcopal oversight for the region. Poverty enforced its reunion with Crediton in 1027. The combined see moved to Exeter in 1050.
