di·min·u·en·do / diˌminyoōˈendō/ Mus. • n. (pl. -dos or -di / -dē/ ) a decrease in loudness: the sudden diminuendos are brilliantly effective. ∎ a passage to be performed with such a decrease. • adv. & adj. (esp. as a direction) with a decrease in loudness: [as adj.] the diminuendo chorus before the final tumult. • v. (-dos, -doed) [intr.] decrease in loudness or intensity: the singers left and the buzz diminuendoed. |
