1. Surface of concave, more or less quarter-cylindrical form, usually applied to the cavetto moulding between a wall and coved ceiling, called coving. In many cases the coving is heavily ornamented. 2. Large concave part of a chancel-screen under the gallery, often with the appearance of vaulting. 3. Curved transition between an exterior wall and the eaves, called coved eaves. |

1. A small coastal inlet; its name implies that it is normally protected from the worst of the prevailing winds by high cliffs or promontories. 2. The wooden roof of the stern gallery in the old sailing warships and East Indiamen. 3. A thin, hollowed line cut along a yacht's sheer strake below deck level, and traditionally gilded. It is also known as a caveta. |
