continuous creation

continuous creation

continuous creation A hypothetical process which is a necessary part of the steady-state theory of cosmology. If the Universe is expanding, then its density would decrease with time unless matter were somehow created to fill the increased volume. Although such a creation process has never been observed, the rate of creation required is so small (about 1 atom of hydrogen per cubic metre over the age of the Universe) that it is difficult to rule out by direct observations.
