climatic zone A region or zone that is characterized by a generally consistent climate. Climatic zones approximate to distinct latitude belts around the Earth. The principal ones are the humid tropical; subtropical arid and semi-arid; humid temperate; boreal (northern hemisphere) or sub-Arctic/sub-Antarctic; and polar zones.
