centre of gravity
centre of gravity The point in a body at which all external forces can be taken to act. In a uniform gravitational field this is the same as the body's centre of mass. Howevezr, in a non-uniform gravitational field, such as that produced by the gravitational pulls of a number of external moving bodies, the body cannot be said to have a true centre of gravity.

centre of gravity
centre of gravity Point at which the weight of a body is considered to be concentrated, and around which its weight is evenly balanced. An object in free-flight spins around its centre of gravity (that is moving in a straight line). In a uniform gravitational field, the centre of gravity is the same as the centre of mass.
