1. In fortifications, a vaulted and blast-resistant chamber with an embrasure in the outer wall, used as a gun-emplacement. It is usually within the general constructions comprising the defences. A casemate or casemated wall is a fortification with a series of casemates between strong outside and inside walls, with massive cross-walls acting as stiffeners between them. 2. Cavetto moulding not exceeding a quarter-round. |
