buried soil Soil covered by an alluvial, colluvial (see COLLUVIUM), aeolian, glacial, or organic deposit, and being a product of a former period of pedogenesis. In US usage a buried soil is defined as lying beneath 30–50 cm if the covering layer is more than half the thickness of the buried soil, otherwise beneath more than 50 cm.
