breckland
breckland A distinctive locality in south-western Norfolk and north-western Suffolk, England, with a mosaic of grass heath and Pteridium aquilinum (bracken) and Calluna vulgaris (heather, ling) communities. Pollen analysis has demonstrated that the breckland was one of the first areas in Britain to be permanently cleared of woodland by Neolithic farmers.
