Blossom ♀ 19th-century coinage, from the vocabulary word for flowers on a fruit tree or ornamental tree (Old English blōstm), used as an affectionate pet name for a young girl. A well-known bearer of the name is the jazz singer Blossom Dearie (b. 1926).
