Barycentric Coordinate Time

Barycentric Coordinate Time (TCB) The time‐scale used in the Barycentric Celestial Reference System, the unit of which is the SI second. TCB differs from Terrestrial Time (TT) because of the movement of the Earth in the Barycentric Celestial Reference System and the Earth's immersion in the gravitational potential of the Sun and other Solar System bodies. These effects cause an overall rate change of about 0.5 s per year on which are superimposed smaller periodic variations. The time‐scale Barycentric Dynamical Time (TDB) is a convenient linear transformation of TCB that keeps in step with TT on the average.

Barycentric Dynamical Time

Barycentric Dynamical Time (TDB) A time‐scale originally intended to be used for calculating the positions of planets and other Solar System bodies using methods consistent with general relativity. Compared with Terrestrial Time, TDB exhibits small periodic variations, caused by the effects on terrestrial clocks of the changing speed and gravitational potential experienced as the Earth orbits the Sun.

Barycentric Celestial Reference System

Barycentric Celestial Reference System (BCRS) A non‐rotating set of spacetime coordinates centred on the barycentre of the Solar System which takes into account distortions in spacetime caused by the masses of the Sun and planets.
