ba·ba / ˈbäˌbä/ (also ba·ba au rhum / ō ˈrəm/ ) • n. a small rich sponge cake, typically soaked in rum-flavored syrup. ba·ba2 • n. Indian, inf. 1. father (often as a proper name or as a familiar form of address). ∎  a respectful form of address for an older man: “Sit down, baba, you like tea?” ∎  (often Baba) a holy man (often as a proper name or form of address). 2. a child, esp. a male one (often in names or as an affectionate form of address).

baba A French cake supposedly invented by King Stanislas I of Poland and named after Ali Baba. ‘Rum baba’ is flavoured with rum; a French modification using a ‘secret’ syrup was called brillat‐savarin or savarin.
