anti-aliasing
anti-aliasing The process of adding extra colours or shading to an image in order to minimize the jagged images found in digital graphics. Most graphic packages contain facilities which enable the user to carry out anti-aliasing. Although it is mainly used for colour images it can also be used for black and white images.

anti-aliasing Taking specific action to remove or subdue aliasing effects. Supersampling or smoothing the image by filtering are techniques often used to reduce aliasing.
