angels of the Churches
angels of the Churches The letters to the seven Churches in Rev. 2–3 are addressed to their ‘angels’ because the author is assuming the Jewish belief that communities on earth have their counterparts in heaven among the angels. The angels share both in the achievements and in the failures of the Churches, for Rev. does not conceive of heaven as supremely good and earth as partly evil; the whole created order is bound together in a unity.
