analogue signal
analogue signal A signal which consists of a continuously varying voltage. For example, the signals which are generated by sources of sound are analogue signals. Before being processed by a computer such signals have to undergo ANALOGUE TO DIGITAL CONVERSION. Analogue signals are in contrast to DIGITAL SIGNALS which consist of discrete values of zeroes and ones.

analogue signal In telecommunications and electronics, transmission of information by means of variation in a continuous waveform. An analogue signal varies (usually in amplitude or frequency) in direct proportion to the information content of the signal. See also digital signal
