altostratus

altostratus From the Latin altum, ‘height’ and stratus, ‘spread out’, the name of a genus of clouds that consists of greyish sheets or layers; the cloud may be striated, fibrous, or uniform. It may be composed of ice crystals as well as water droplets. See also cloud classification.
