Xiangtan
Xiangtan or Siangtan , city (1994 est. pop. 490,100), E central Hunan prov., China, on the Xiang River. Formerly an agricultural distribution center, it is now industrialized. Products include textiles, iron, steel, manganese ore, cement, and machine tools. The name sometimes appears as Hsiang-t'an. |

Xiangtan, Hunan/China Xiangnan, Hengshan Named after the Xiang River on which it lies at its junction with the Lian River and tán ‘pool’, a reference to some deep pools in the Xiang.
