Wright-Patterson Air Force Base

Wright-Patterson Air Force Base located in Dayton, Ohio, where it is home to more than seventy units from seven different Air Force commands and numerous Department of Defense organizations, Wright-Patterson AFB is a major center for aviation research and development. First established in 1917 as McCook Field, it was joined by Wilbur Wright Field in 1924, located on land donated by the local community. In 1931, Wright Field was renamed Patterson Field for Lt. Frank Patterson, and the two fields, McCook and Patterson, became a single installation, renamed Wright-Patterson AFB. Wright-Patterson AFB is responsible for researching and developing weapon systems of the future, and is the headquarters of a worldwide logistics system that supports the entire U.S. Air Force.

Wright-Patterson Air Force Base

Wright-Patterson Air Force Base U.S. military installation, 8,023 acres (3,247 hectares), W Ohio, NE of Dayton; est. 1917. One of the largest airport installations in the world, it is the air force's main research and development base, and the headquarters of the Air Force Logistics Command (national center for defense activities). The Aerospace Medical Laboratory and the Air Force Museum are also on the base.
