World Cup

World Cup

World Cup Worldwide competition for national association football teams, held every four years. The winner receives the Jules Rimet trophy. Qualifying rounds take place over the previous two years on a geographical league basis. The finals are organized by the Fédération Internationale de Football Associations (FIFA), football's governing body. Only the winners of each group, the host nation, and the previous winner automatically qualify for the finals. There are also world cup competitions in other sports, notably rugby, cricket and hockey.
