William Falconer

William Falconer , 1732-69, Scottish poet. The victim of a shipwreck off Greece, he described his ordeal in a long, didactic poem, The Shipwreck (1762). He also wrote (1769) a source book on shipping and naval practices.

Falconer, William

Falconer, William (1732–69), author of The Shipwreck (1762, rev. 1764, 1769), a poem in three cantos recounting the wreck of a ship on the coast of Greece, which had considerable vogue in its day. Falconer was drowned at sea.
