Whitelaw Reid

Reid, Whitelaw

Reid, Whitelaw (1837–1912), Cincinnati journalist, whose reporting of the Civil War and the South during Reconstruction is partially republished in After the War (1866). He became Greeley's assistant on the New York Tribune, and was editor after 1872. Besides various diplomatic assignments, he published several books on historical and political subjects.
