Vittorio Veneto

Vittorio Veneto , town (1991 pop. 29,231), Venetia, NE Italy, in the Alpine foothills. It is a secondary industrial and commercial center and a spa. There, in Oct.-Nov., 1918, the Italians won a decisive victory over the Austrians, which led to the Austro-Hungarian surrender to Armando Diaz on Nov. 3.

Vittorio Veneto, Veneto/Italy Vittorio Founded as a consequence of the merger of Serravalle and Ceneda in 1866, it was named after Victor Emmanuel II (1820–78), King of Sardinia‐Piedmont from 1849 and the first King of Italy (1861–78). Veneto, to indicate its location, was added in 1923.
