Victoria de los Angeles

Victoria de los Angeles , 1923-2005, Spanish soprano, b. Barcelona. After a concert debut in Madrid in 1944, de los Angeles toured Scandinavia, France, England, and South America. Her debut in the United States was made at Carnegie Hall in 1950, and she joined the Metropolitan Opera Company the same year, performing there until 1961. After that she toured extensively, singing in most of the world's major opera houses. Her voice was praised for its lyricism and elegant expressiveness, and her performances of Catalan folk-song were especially notable.

Los Angeles, Victoria de (1923– ) Spanish soprano. She gave her first public concert in Barcelona (1945). Los Angeles made her debut at the Paris Opéra and La Scala, Milan, in 1949. In 1950, she made her American debut at Carnegie Hall and joined New York's Metropolitan Opera Company.

Los Angeles, Victoria de [ García, Victoria López] (b Barcelona, 1923; d 2005). Sp. soprano. Début while student in Monteverdi's Orfeo. Professional début as Mimì, Barcelona 1941. Won Geneva int. fest. 1947. Eng. début, BBC 1949; CG 1950; Amer. début NY 1950; Met 1951; Bayreuth Fest. début 1961. Notable interpreter of Mimì, Butterfly, Carmen, Dido, etc., also of Mozart and Wagner roles. Retired from stage 1969, but continued to give recitals.
