Vela

Ve·la / ˈvēlə; ˈvā-/ Astron. a southern constellation (the Sails), lying partly in the Milky Way between Carina and Pyxis and originally considered part of Argo. ∎  [as genitive] (Ve·lo·rum / vēˈlôrəm/ ) used with a preceding letter or numeral to designate a star in this constellation: the star Gamma Velorum.

Vela

Vela (abbr. Vel, gen. Velorum) A constellation of the southern sky, representing the sails of the ship Argo Navis. Gamma Velorum is a wide double star of magnitudes 1.8 and 4.3, the brighter of which is the brightest known Wolf–Rayet star. The constellation contains the Gum Nebula and the Vela Pulsar.
