Uropeltidae
Uropeltidae (shield-tailed snakes; order Squamata, suborder Serpentes) A family of primitive, burrowing snakes which resemble the blind snakes (Typhlopidae) but possess an enlarged, modified scale near the tip of the tail (possibly an aid to burrowing or to anchor them in the ground).
