UKIRT Infrared Deep‐Sky Survey

UKIRT Infrared Deep‐Sky Survey (UKIDSS) A near‐infrared survey being undertaken with the United Kingdom Infrared Telescope (UKIRT) on Hawaii. It consists of five parts: the Large Area Survey (LAS), covering 4000 square degrees of sky away from the galactic plane down to a K magnitude of 18.4; the Galactic Plane Survey (GPS) of 1800 square degrees along the galactic plane down to a K magnitude of 19.0; the Galactic Clusters Survey (GCS), imaging ten open star clusters and associations to a K magnitude of 18.7; the Deep Extragalactic Survey (GXS), targeting four areas of sky at high galactic latitudes to a K magnitude of 21.0; and the Ultra Deep Survey (UDS), imaging the same field as surveyed by the Subaru optical telescope and XMM‐Newton satellite, to a K magnitude of 23.0. The LAS will be repeated after an interval of at least two years to obtain proper motions. The total area of sky covered by all surveys is about 7500 square degrees. UKIDSS began in 2005May and is expected to be completed in 2012.
