Torre Annunziata, Campania/Italy Now a spa within the conurbation of Naples, it takes its name from a chapel and hospital dedicated to the Virgin of the Annunciation in 1319. The name is translated as ‘Tower of the Annunciation’ from torre ‘tower’.

Torre Annunziata , city (1991 pop. 52,875), Campania, S Italy, on the Bay of Naples and at the foot of Mt. Vesuvius . It is a port, industrial center, and seaside resort. Founded in the early 14th cent., the city was destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in 1631.
