Gobbi, Tito
Gobbi, Tito (b Bassano del Grappa, nr. Venice, 1913; d Rome, 1984). It. baritone and opera producer. Début Gubbio 1935 as Rodolfo in La Sonnambula. Sang Germont père in La traviata in Rome 1937 and title-role in Wozzeck at f. It. p. 1942. La Scala 1942; S. Francisco 1948; Salzburg 1950; CG 1951; NY Met 1956. Sang regularly at CG. Sang with Chicago Lyric Opera 1954–73. Outstanding actor as well as singer: notable for interpretations of Scarpia, Rigoletto, Macbeth, Iago, Falstaff, and Boccanegra. Début as producer, Chicago and CG 1965. Repertory of 100 operas.

Gobbi, Tito
Gobbi, Tito (1915–84) Italian baritone. In 1938, he made his debut in Verdi's La Traviata in Rome. Gobbi sang in most of the great opera houses and was acclaimed for his acting ability.
