Institutes, The
Institutes, The. The abbreviated English title of J. Calvin's Institutio Religionis Christianae. The first edition was published in Latin in 1536; the definitive edition in 1559 (in Latin) and 1560 (in French). It sets out Calvin's characteristic views on (1) God the creator, (2) God the redeemer, (3) the nature, means of appropriation, and effects of grace; and (4) the Church, ministry, and sacraments.
