Synchronous Optical Network
Synchronous Optical Network An optical fibre communications technology used to transfer network data. The developers of this technology had four aims: to enable a number of carriers to work together, to connect incompatible systems, to enable the MULTIPLEXING of many digital signals, and to make system maintenance easy. Often abbreviated to SONET.
