Swiss chard
Swiss chard The spinach‐like leaves and broad midrib of Beta vulgaris var. cicla, also known as leaf beet, leaf chard, sea kale beet, silver beet, white leaf beet, spinach beet. A 100‐g portion (boiled) is a rich source of vitamin A (as carotene); a good source of vitamin C; a source of iron; supplies 18 kcal (72 kJ).
The term is also used for blanched summer shoots of globe artichoke and for inner leaves of cardoon, Cynara cardunculus. |
