Sir William Smith

Sir William Smith 1813-93, English editor and lexicographer. He was editor of the Quarterly Review from 1867 until his death and also edited reference works esteemed for their accuracy and comprehensiveness. These included dictionaries of Greek and Roman antiquities (1842), biography and mythology (1844-49), and geography (1854-57) and a dictionary of the Bible (1860-63).

Smith, Sir William (1813–93), editor of the Quarterly Review (1867–93). He is associated with the revival of classical teaching in England and among his many educational works are his Dictionary of Greek and Roman Antiquities (1842).
