Sir Hermann Gollancz

Sir Hermann Gollancz , 1852-1930, English rabbi and authority on Hebrew language and literature. He was professor of Hebrew (1902-24) at University College, London. In 1902 he edited an English version of the Bible for Jewish use. His publications include translations from Hebrew and Aramaic. He was knighted in 1923.

Gollancz, Sir Victor (1893–1967), nephew of Sir I. Gollancz, publisher; he founded his own firm in 1928, and in 1936 the Left Book Club. He was well known for his progressive views and his resistance to Fascism.
